Romania faces the world with the “greenest” new buildings in the world

2019 was the best year for the sustainable certifications segment in Romania, according to the data centralized by BuildGreen, and at the national level, we exceeded the threshold of 250 “green buildings”. Of these, only last year more than 40 office buildings, shopping centres, logistics spaces, residential projects and even factories were certified sustainably.

“The last year has been really prolific and if we look in detail at the current rankings, the podiums for both BREEAM and LEED are completely different compared to the beginning of the previous year. Moreover, seven of the 10 LEED positions are represented by projects certified in the last year, which denotes the high degree of sustainability that the developers have achieved in the last year “, said, in an interview for Wall-Street, Răzvan Nica, managing director of BuildGreen.

Much more important, in his opinion, is the fact that in the last 12 months, the highest levels existing worldwide on the BREEAM and LEED certification schemes have been obtained in Romania – the systems most used for sustainable certification of a project.

Thus, the first two BREEAM Outstanding in Romania were obtained by two stores of retail operators Lidl (Bucharest) and Penny Market (Otopeni), while earlier this year the first Outstanding level was obtained for a large real estate project, Expo Business Park, a project in which BuildGreen was the sustainability consultant.
